The story of the Zippo lighter began in the Bradford Country Club in Bradford, Pennsylvania, US, in the early 1930s. Founder George G. Blaisdell spotted a friend using an Austrian lighter. The design could be lit in difficult conditions, but was prone to denting, and not pleasing to the eye.
The budding entrepreneur designed a more eye catching version, offering a lifetime guarantee, for less than 2 dollars. This premium, durable lighter would become the first of many, highly collectible, and widely used around the world.
In the following decades, the Zippo was issued to the American military during WWII, Vietnam, and other conflicts. It has also appeared in more than 1,500 movies and TV shows. The classic design has been produced in different colours, and finishes, with flags, logos, and engravings in limited edition and for the purpose of personalisation. Zippo also produces stationary, accessories, and other related products.
